New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian affirmed in a press conference on Thursday that three crew members died after a huge air tanker crashed in the Snowy Monaro area of New South Wales, Australia.

New South Wales Rural Fire Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons affirmed in a press conference Thursday that three people on board the aircraft were US residents.

A spokesperson for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) advised Business Insider the aircraft was a C-130 Hercules worked by Coulson Aviation. The reason for the crash remains unclear.

The aircraft was registered and has been attracted to Australia in August.

The CASA spokesperson stated there was no sign that anything unusual was occurring with the aircraft before the crash.

Fitzsimmons stated parts of aircraft was discovered, which rescue attempts took”quite some time.”

“It is impacted greatly with the floor and first reports are that there was a massive fireball connected to the effect of the airplane as it struck the floor,” he explained. “It remains an active fire floor and it was rather hard to find the wreckage.”

The New South Wales Rural Fire Service ini tally stated in a tweetit was investigating the incident after it lost contact with all the massive aircraft.

The four-engine turboprop was initially made as a medevac or freight transport aircraft but is widely utilized in aerial firefighting.

The country of New South Wales was hit particularly badly by bushfires this season. As of Thursday, there were over 100 firesburning in the area.
