‘Black No Extra’ Musical From John Ridley & The Roots’ Tarik Trotter Units Off Broadway Premiere
Black No Extra, a brand new musical by 12 Years a Slave screenwriter and American Crime creator John Ridley and The Roots’ Tarik Trotter (aka Black Thought), will launch The New Group’s 2020-2021 theater season at Off Broadway’s Pershing Sq. Signature Heart.
Directed by Scott Elliott, with choreography by Invoice T. Jones, the world premiere manufacturing of Black No Extra will start performances in October on the Signature Heart’s Irene Diamond Stage.
The musical relies on George S. Schuyler’s 1931 novel by the identical identify, and can characteristic a solid that features Jennifer Damiano (Subsequent to Regular), Brandon Victor Dixon (Hamilton), Tamika Lawrence (Hire), Theo Stockman (American Fool) and Trotter. Further casting might be introduced later.
Schuyler’s satirical Harlem Renaissance-era novel is about in New York Metropolis, June 1928, with Howard College graduate Dr. Junius Crookman selling a mysterious machine that guarantees to show any individual of shade white — Crookman’s solution to “remedy the American race drawback.” The story is described by The New Group as “an examination of race, id and the very nature of affection.”
Daryl Waters (Herald ‘Da Noise, Herald ‘Da Funk) will deal with the manufacturing’s Music Supervision, Orchestrations and Vocal Preparations.
