2020 is shaping up to be an exciting season for films, and one of the very fascinating is David Lowery’s The Green Knight, a medieval fantasy according to Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.

The first trailer for The Green Knight resembles a substantial departure from Lowery’s previous movies, The Old Man & the Gun and A Ghost Story, but it nonetheless showcases Lowery’s meticulous sense of design and smooth mixing of the real and the fantastical. Dev Patel celebrities as Gawain, together with Sean Harris as King Arthur, Joel Edgerton and Alicia Vikander as characters Gawain meets on his trip, and Ralph Ineson since the Green Knight.

There are many puzzles, including the character of Gawain’s fox buddy, the colossal hand flapping down on the horizon, and also how tightly Lowery’s adaptation will probably follow the poem and story it is drawn out of. Can it finish as anticlimactically? Judging from the extreme that the trailer, perhaps not.

The movie is set to hit theatres on May 29. Have a look at the very first poster below.
