Hachette closes a messy chapter, drops Woody Allen memoir after employees protest

Hachette E-book Group has made the choice to drop Woody Allen’s memoir, Apropos of Nothing, and it solely took the collective ire of its employees to make the writer change its thoughts. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Hachette cancelled plans to publish the Allen’s memoir after the employees walked out in solidarity with Ronan Farrow, who severed all professional ties with the writer in protest. Hachette launched the next assertion to THR:

“Hachette E-book Group has determined that it’ll not publish Woody Allen’s memoir A Propos of Nothing, initially scheduled on the market in April 2020, and can return all rights to the writer. The choice to cancel Mr. Allen’s e book was a troublesome one. At HBG we take {our relationships} with authors very severely, and don’t cancel books evenly. We’ve got revealed and can proceed to publish many difficult books. As publishers, we be certain every single day in our work that totally different voices and conflicting factors of views may be heard. Additionally, as an organization, we’re dedicated to providing a stimulating, supportive and open work surroundings for all our employees. Grand Central Publishing, an imprint of Hachette, announced the acquisition and deliberate launch of Allen’s memoir on Monday. Farrow, who heard in regards to the acquisition by means of the information with everybody else, responded the following day on Twitter. In a press release, the writer said that he wouldn’t be working with fellow imprint Little, Brown or every other division of Hachette, which had proven “an absence of ethics and compassion for victims of sexual abuse.” As of now, neither Allen nor Farrow have publicly responded to Hachette’s choice.
