Mirzapur Series Index Season 1 (All Episodes)
Episode 1: “Jhandu”
Overview: The pilot episode introduces us to Akhandanad Tripathi, popularly known as Kaleen Bhaiyya. Even more popularly perceived as the king who never had a coronation, Kaleen Bhaiya dealt in drugs and arms. Yes, he had an ongoing business in drugs and arms might as well call it under the table too since it all happened under the guise of a legit carpet manufacturing company.
Weddings waver woes away or that’s what it was supposed to be crackers, play guns, decorations, and a celebration of love. Until Kaleen Bhaiyya’s son, Phoolchand (also known as Munna Bhaiyya), accidentally kills the groom by firing a play gun, which was very much original; though he didn’t have a clue about it.
We then meet Beena, who is considerably younger than Kaleen and is also his wife. But their marriage has its own ups and downs, well, downs mostly, as Kaleen has continuously been failing to satisfy Munni in bed.
The groom is dead, and along with him were his wishes, whims, and goals but not his family’s. In a desperate attempt to avenge their beloved son’s sudden demise, they hire an able lawyer. Straightforward, witty, and an idealist Ramakant Pandit has just had as many brains as he had the bravery.
The episode also introduces to Ramakant’s personal life, apart from his professional one. He has three kids, namely Guddu, Bablu, and Dimpy. And all three of them are shown to have been pursuing education from the same university as the killer, aka Munna Bhaiya. Apparently, Goddu has a sweet spot for Dimpy’s friend, Sweety but just as love is, nervous and fidgety, he is too afraid to approach her.
Fast forward to the scene where SP Parshuram informs Kaleen that his age-old nemesis, Rati Shankar, is returning to town (ow, red alert!). He also confirms about Munna’s blunder, much to his father’s fear. To this, Kaleen summons his son and asks him to fix whatever he has damaged in this case, shooting the groom dead.
What Munna does is, land up at Ramakant’s house, trying to threaten him into rejecting the case altogether. Ramakant, stubborn and severe with his principles as he is, straightforward refuses to do so which only prompts Munna to fish out a gun and aim it at him.
Chaos and confusion take place as Ramakant and his family take on Munna and his goons and end up beating them to the ground. Kaleen now decides that it’s time he takes the matter into his hands, and steps in. He drops a message summoning Ramakant’s kids, and the kids are only horrified as to what Kaleen has in store for them.
Episode 2: “Gooda”
Overview: The Pandit boys arrive at Kaleen’s command, scared and stupefied as to what dark future awaits them. To their (and the audience’s) surprise, Kaleen, instead of being furious and fiery at the for beating up his son is proud and happy. Proud and happy about the fact that they dared to do so, and successfully did so full well knowing that Munna was Kaleen’s son, the uncrowned king’s son.
Kaleen takes a firm decision of offering the Pandit brothers a job, much to Munna’s dismay. The brothers wonder and worry for a good amount of time, before arriving on the decision to comply with the offer. And this only turns out to anger Munna to the extreme, especially with his father, whom he expected to punish them instead.
Both of the sons are given a bike and a pistol and subsequently asked by Kaleen to persuade their father into not taking up the case. When Ramakant gets to know about it all, he fills up with anger and resentment. This compels him to disown his sons and asks them to leave immediately. He also makes it very clear that he won’t back down from the case, no matter what.
We are introduced to Golu, who is the exact opposite of Sweety. Nerdy as she is, the two sisters are poles apart. Their father is shown as the cop who walks, talks, and sleeps on corruption; which comes out as ironical given his profession. He also accepts bribes from Kaleen, periodically.
Munna has a liking towards Sweety, but Sweety couldn’t care less about it. Despite his friends’ threats and fiascos, she stands her ground time and again that she isn’t interested in him. Elsewhere, Guddu and Bablu threaten the gone groom’s father to withdraw the case, once and for all.
Hesitant and equally reluctant at first, the Pandit brothers weren’t here to take a no from the father. So, they devise a plan and threaten them further by hanging the brother in law from the balcony. This injects fear and anxiety in all, and they finally submit to them confirming that they would be withdrawing the case.
Meanwhile, Rati Shankar, who was introduced in the pilot episode as Kaleen’s age-old enemy returning to Mirzapur, sends a man to finish Kaleen’s son, Munna. However, Munna puts up a tough battle and survives it, and kills his killer instead. The show ends with Rati’s son pitching his father the idea of seeking vengeance during Kaleen’s absence in Mirzapur.
Episode 3: “Wafadar”
Overview: A rivalry that has been going on for generations now, a war that has remained unspoken since ages the one between Kaleen, his father, and Rati is now back to life. Sharad, Rati’s son, is reluctant to join his father’s business.
J.P. Yadav is the quest for extra funds for the election and asks for the same from Kaleen Bhaiyya. Thus, he meets Lala to persuade him into supplying extra opium ( popularly known as Resham in Hindi).
Things, however, take a turn when while returning he gets attacked by the assassin men sent by Rati. But the tables turn when Yadav captures two of the assassins instead and interrogates them. He soon learns that his family is on Rati Shankar’s radar, and their lives are in grave danger.
Kaleen changes his gameplan and gives Bablu and Guddu the responsibility of his gun ring, asking them to expand and take care of it as much as possible. Meanwhile, Kaleen’s wife satisfies herself by sleeping with someone else, other than her own husband.
Episode 4: “Virginity”
Overview: Beena decides to sleep with the house servant, Raju, who successfully manages to satisfy her, which Kaleen had been failing to do. Elsewhere, the principal of Golu’s university ushers him to stand for the elections, as in his opinion, Munna was way too violent.
Sweety, on the other hand, had refused Munna’s approach of taking her out on a date multiple times, and finally asks Guddu out. What Munna does is that he brings steroids for Guddu, to help him build his body, with the help of the compounder. The compounder is known to have been extremely loyal to Munna, almost like his disciple.
So loyal that when Munna expresses his whims to take over Mirzapur once his father lets him, the compounder brings a promising deal to the table, offering to kill Kaleen bhaiyya with Munna’s consent.
Munna enrages, and snarks back initially, however, after a while, he actually considers the offer. Justifying the title of the episode and ironical to it, Guddu and Bablu have their first kill.
Episode 5: “Bhaukaal”
Overview: Munna decides to take a cut in the opium deal, that too without Kaleen’s advice or opinion on it. Guddu and Bablu come up with a mastermind plan to increase the sales and trade of guns in Mirzapur.
The only catch being, for this to happen, both cops and criminals have to work hand in hand and co-operate. Guddu finally confesses to Sweety that he is a member of the mafia, much to Sweet’s surprise.
Meanwhile, in a desperate attempt to restore peace, justice, and tranquillity in town, Ramakant writes numerous letters to the chief minister regarding the matters at Mirzapur. Guddu and Bablu finally get involved in the drug business, selling drugs through eunuchs.
Since the advent of Bablu and Guddu into Kaleen’s business, not only does the amount of violence skyrocket, but also the sales of guns – which only keeps increasing steeply. All of this impresses Kaleen immensely.
Finally, the state capital pays heed to the increasing wrongdoings and injustice in Mirzapur and decides to send a police officer to bring things back in control.
Episode 6: “Barfi”
Overview: The gang leaders of the mafia community of Purvanchal decide to meet up in person, namely, Kaleen Bhaiya, Rati Shanker, and others. And of course, their politically acclaimed, well-renowned ally J.P Yadav, who has been playing pretence.
The cause of the meet stems from a Holi Party that ends up in disturbance, quarrels, and fights; threatening to turn all equations upside down. J.P. Yadav gets extremely humiliated and insulted by Munna Bhaiyya and Kaleen, and thus decides to join forces with their formidable enemy, Rati Shankar.
However, all of it on one cause only if Rati Shankar agrees to provide him with the funds for the elections, and he shall help Rati Shankar regain control over Mirzapur.
Episode 7: “Lions of Mirzapur”
Overview: Guddu and Bablu end up mixing and involving their private and professional lives together, but how exactly is it going to end up?
Episode 8: “Tandav”
Overview: The two Pandit brothers, Guddu and Bablu go together to meet a political party. However, to their great surprise, they learn that it is Kaleen Bhaiyya’s most formidable enemy, Shukla. Shukla tries to manipulate and persuade the boys into joining him and leaving Kaleen’s side, which triggers a riotous fight.
The fatal fight ends with Guddu shooting Shukla to death. However, as news spread like forest fires, this one does too. It reaches everyone and anyone, as the whole town of Mirzapur gets to know what went down that day.
This angers Kaleen bhaiyya, and furious as he becomes, he scolds the boys for killing Shkula without even thinking about consulting Kaleen. Meanwhile, Sweet and Guddu get married, and just the next day, Guddu is seen taking part in a bodybuilding competition held in Mirzapur.
Back in episode 4, if you’d remember, the compounder had promised Kaleen’s son Munna, thanks to his ceaseless loyalty, to kill his father so that Munna can take over. Keeping his promise, the compounder attacks Kaleen and tries to kill him but the plan fails, which angers Munna.
Munna, unwillingly, kills the compounder instead so that his own father doesn’t get to know about his son’s ulterior motives, which of course, sinks him into a cooped up world of sadness and depression.
And it was obvious, as the compounder was his most loyal companion. Munna then frames Guddu as being the attacker who tries to kill Kaleen, which in turn makes Kaleen make Guddu lose the competition.
Guddu becomes way too aggressive on stage, seeing this injustice. Kaleen bhaiya hands over the gun to Munna, and Munna smirks with a villainous expression and declares that the bloodbath is all in his hands now.
Episode 9: “Yogya”
Overview: Guddu wins the election, and Sweety is now pregnant with his child. However, Munna finds Sweety and Bablu at a wedding and kills them. Kaleen’s father gets to know about Beena sleeping with Raju, and thus asks her to sleep with him.
Guddu teaches Golu how to shoot to kill Munna, but Golu misses, however the bride’s father at the marriage were aiming at Munna already. The season ends at a cliffhanger, with Beena looking for a gun, Sharad going bald in remembrance of how his father wanted to take over Mirzapur, and Golu, Guddu, and Dimpy fleeing.
