List Of Top 7 Jean Claude Van Damme Movies

The 1980s were the heyday of action movies, when muscular protagonists ruled the big screen and saturated the rapidly growing direct-to-video industry. Today, the action genre has shifted to a more serious tone. While stars such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone had broken through to the public and established themselves as household names, there was no lack of up and coming younger actors eager to follow in their footsteps after their success.

Double Impact (1991)/Replicant (2001)

Double Impact was the first time I saw Jean-Claude on the big screen, owing to a combination of the film's UK distribution in theatres and the fact that I was allowed to purchase tickets for 18-certificate films at the age of 16. It was exhilarating, humorous, aggressive, and a genuine opportunity for JCVD to show his acting abilities.

Kickboxer (1989)

When you think about it, Kickboxer is a lot like Karate Kid (or, more precisely, Part II), just with more gory violence and shattered glass. A young, inexperienced fighter is educated by a wise old master using some fairly unusual tactics in order to get retribution - albeit Mr. Miyagi was not a supporter of bloodthirsty vengeance.

A.W.O.L: Absent Without Leave – Lionheart (1990)

It's tough to convey the extent to which A.W.O.L influenced my admiration for Van Damme without contextualising. To many people, I'm sure, it's merely a film about a guy earning money via underground fights in order to support his deceased brother's wife and kid, but it was completely cherished in my mid-teens.

JCVD (2008)

JCVD was one of the eponymous star's most highly lauded films to date, coming left of centre at a time when the general public dismissed Van Damme as capable of nothing more than straight-to-video action films. To the film's credit – even for a devoted fan – it was nonetheless a shock to the system, with its very gloomy portrayal of one guy caught within the concept of notoriety, condemned to create the same kind of film in perpetuity for the remainder of his career.

Hard Target is a 1993 American action film directed by Hong Kong filmmaker John Woo, who made his American debut with this picture. Jean-Claude Van Damme starred in the film as Chance Boudreaux, an unemployed Cajun merchant sailor who rescues a young lady called Natasha Binder (Yancy Butler) from a band of criminals in New Orleans. Chance discovers Binder's hunt for her missing father (Chuck Pfarrer) and offers to assist her. They quickly discover that Binder's father was murdered by hunt organizers Emil Fouchon (Lance Henriksen) and Pik van Cleef (Arnold Vosloo), two vicious businessmen who organize the killing of homeless persons for amusement purposes. Pfarrer wrote the script, which is based on Richard Connell's 1924 short tale "The Most Dangerous Game." It is the first installment in the Hard Target franchise.

Conclusion

Jean-Claude Van Damme, one of the 1980s and 1990s' biggest action stars, is renowned for his lightning-fast roundhouse kicks and the intense stares he gives his opponents before knocking them unconscious. The "Muscles from Brussels" began training in Shotokan karate, Taekwondo, Muay Thai, and ballet as a teenager. He won the European Professional Karate Association's middleweight championship in 1979. He went on to win the Mr. Belgium bodybuilding title before relocating to the United States and establishing himself as an action icon. So there's no wonder that Jean-Claude Van Damme is one of the best action stars of his time and until now.
