John Legend is becoming involved in a different race for district attorney, now endorsing George Gascón at the effort for best prosecutor in Los Angeles.

Legend is headlining a fundraiser for Gascón on Feb. 5, based on an invitation to the occasion.

Legend is a vocal supporter of criminal justice reform, also has endorsed a set of innovative prosecutors across the nation. Last autumn, he backed Chesa Boudin at the race for San Francisco district attorney, the place that Gascón left to operate for D.A. at Los Angeles.

He supported Kim Foxx, the country’s lawyer in Chicago, in 2016, and recently endorsed her re-election campaign. In 2017, he endorsed Larry Krasner, who had been chosen D.A. of Philadelphia on a stage of criminal justice reform.

Gascón is hard incumbent Jackie Lacey, who’s looking for a third term from the March 3 main election. Gascón procured the county Democratic Party acceptance, also has touted his advanced credentials and called for a decrease in incarceration prices.

Lacey has countered by stating that she, also, is an advanced, emphasized her attempts to expunge bud convictions and also to deal with mentally ill inmates.

Legend has worked with the ACLU to draw focus on neighborhood D.A. races, and he addressed mass incarceration when he and Frequent won the Academy Award for first song in 2015.

“We are living in the most incarcerated country on the planet,” Legend said in the moment. “You will find more black guys under correctional control now then were under captivity in 1850. When individuals are marching together with our song, we would like to inform you we’re with youwe see youwe adore you, and march on.”

The design will be held in the Warwick nightclub in Hollywood, also is co-hosted by Michael and Lydia Kives, in Addition to Matt Johnson, Mario Trujillo, Jordan C. Brown, and Carol Biondi. Brian Buchner is recorded as a host.
