Producer Jason Blum on’The Hunt’ Rescheduling:’When the Controversy Requires More People to Watch It, That is Alright with Me’
Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions has mastered the box office when it comes to the horror genre in the last few decades, so when”The Hunt” cancelled its intended September 2019 launch, it was a significant shock.
The movie — a satiric thriller that follows a bunch of liberal elites who attempt to monitor and kill”red state” conservatives for game — sparked controversy and has been shelved in August after the Dayton and El Paso mass shootings. Additionally, it attracted the ire of President Donald Trump, who (though he didn’t name the movie ) insinuated through Twitter which”the film coming out was created so as to inflame and cause chaos.”
At Tuesday’s Los Angeles premiere of Blumhouse’s most up-to-date thriller,”Fantasy Island,” Blum reflected about the information declared earlier in the afternoon that”The Hunt” will be hitting theaters following this March.
“I constantly check the responses online,” the producer told Variety. “I have been (studying ) a great deal and I believe this time about lots of the men and women who wrote (around ) the film have seen the film and I am very happy to date the way that it’s been written about since it is being known much better now for a satire –which is exactly what it is.”
Variety was available Tuesday if Universal screened”The Hunt” for journalists, finally reintroducing the movie with a brand new trailer and poster directed toward the controversy, tagging it”the most talked about film nobody has ever observed.”

Blum added that Tuesday’s news was welcome to the movie’s actors that were”clearly sad” if the film was shot off the program. “They’re thrilled that folks will see their very hard — and I believe, brilliant — operate,” he explained.
As for if the manufacturer believes all of the drama will help or harm the movie in the box office,” Blum explained,”When the controversy makes people to view it then that is fine with me”
If there is 1 thing Blumhouse Productions understands the way to do, it is getting viewer’s interest. By”Paranormal Activity” and”The Purge” into”Split” and”Get Out,” the production company has made their mark by producing low budget movies that nearly always make waves (and cash ) in the box office. It is a version that”Fantasy Island” manager Jeff Wadlow says finally comes down to creative liberty.
“Jason protects his filmmakers,” Wadlow clarified. “He gives you a little budget and that he says’You are not getting anymore.’ However, so long as you remain within those parameters, you can do anything you want, and I feel that is why his movies often get the job done so well. Because people are permitted to take risks and a great deal of people in Hollywood are not taking these risks.”
“Having this artistic confidence is what,” Lucy Hale, celebrity of”Fantasy Island,” stated of Blumhouse. “They have the genre. No one does it better since they can shoot these (with) large picture theories, make it less, but it still seems big.”
“Fantasy Island” marks Hale’s second movie using Blumhouse and Wadlow, after cooperating with the duo on 2018’s”Truth or Dare.” “Fantasy Island” follows a set of fortunate guests — such as Michael Peña, Jimmy O. Yang, Ryan Hansen, Portia Doubleday, Michael Rooker and Austin Stowell — that land in a distant tropical resort anticipating their secret dreams to come into life, but rather quickly falling in their own nightmares. The movie, which hits theaters on Valentine’s Day, is a version of this 1970s tv series of the exact same name.
Wadlow included,”The first series was rather dark, folks appear to overlook that, and therefore we actually pushed the envelope with this movie. It is a Blumhouse film so we needed to perform it. … the scares only come .”
