Russia launches aggression on Kyiv as Zelensky vows to annihilate Moscow's forcesafter Kyiv and various other parts of the country, including western regions far from the front lines, were targeted by military strikes on military and infrastructure installations.
President Volodymyr Zelensky commended Ukraine's air defenses for successfully shooting down over 30 drones. He defiantly stated that Ukrainian forces were actively eliminating Russian forces in the conflict's primary theaters, namely the east and south.
The commander of Ukraine's land forces, along with the deputy defense minister, reported significant progress in launching a counteroffensive in both these regions.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, their forces successfully targeted and destroyed eight ammunition warehouses in Ukraine within the previous 24 hours. They also claimed to have repelled Ukrainian attacks in three different areas.
The ministry stated that Ukrainian forces attempted to launch an attack on the eastern city of Donetsk, currently held by Russia, as well as the southern Zaporizhzhia region. However, these attacks were reportedly thwarted.
In a separate incident, President Zelensky's office reported multiple waves of drone attacks targeting the Kyiv region over a span of more than four hours.
Furthermore, on the same day, Ukrainian forces used drones to strike the Russian-controlled town of Nova Kakhovka in the southern Kherson region. Local authorities appointed by Russia stated that this attack resulted in the death of a woman and injuries to four civilians.

More Attention On The Counter Offensive

Amidst the ongoing Ukrainian counteroffensive aimed at reclaiming territory seized by Russian forces since the invasion in February 2022, Russia conducted its attacks. These attacks occurred at a time when the focus was primarily on Ukrainian actions against Russian defensive positions in the south and east.
According to Kyiv, they have successfully recaptured 113 square kilometers (44 square miles) of land and eight settlements from Russian forces. However, the recent strikes demonstrate that Russia possesses the capability to wage war beyond the conventional front lines.
Addressing the nation in his regular video statement, President Zelensky emphasized that Ukrainian forces in the south and east were actively engaged in destroying the enemy and undertaking efforts to physically cleanse Ukraine of Russian presence.

According to General Oleksander Syrskyi, the commander of Ukraine's land forces, significant advancements are being made by Ukrainian troops on the flanks of the devastated eastern city of Bakhmut. This city had been captured by Russian mercenaries the previous month following prolonged clashes.
General Syrskyi reported on Telegram that Ukrainian forces were successfully repelling escalating and more intense Russian attacks near Kupiansk in the northeast region.
Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar stated that Ukrainian forces in the south were steadily and confidently advancing, albeit in small steps. She metaphorically described the progress as carving up every meter of land from the enemy.
Maliar revealed that Russian forces had extensively mined various areas, including towns. Kyrylo Budanov, the chief of Ukraine's military intelligence, accused Russia of mining the pond used to cool the reactors at the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
In the drone attacks on the Kyiv area, President Zelensky's office reported damage to several commercial and administrative buildings, as well as some private houses. However, there was no mention of any casualties resulting from the overnight air strikes.
Regional governor Maksym Kozytskiy stated that a critically important facility in Lviv, located far from the front lines and approximately 70 km (43 miles) from the border with Poland, was targeted. However, he did not provide specific details about the facility.
The Ukrainian air force confirmed that their air defenses were actively engaged, particularly in the Kyiv region, resulting in the destruction of over two dozen Iranian-made Shahed drones.
As a result of the drone attacks, falling debris damaged power lines in both the Kyiv region and the southern Mykolaiv region, causing power outages for hundreds of residents, according to the Energy Ministry.
Additionally, the air force reported that Russia had targeted infrastructure in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, utilizing Iskander and S-300 missiles. Ukraine's military disclosed that a total of seven missiles were fired at Zaporizhzhia by Russia.
