Woman held in assassination plot against Ukraine's president as airstrikes kill 3people, according to the Secret Service of Ukraine (SSU), the country's intelligence agency. The detained individual was reportedly making arrangements for a Russian airstrike in the Mykolaiv region while the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy was on a visit.
The SSU statement indicated that the woman's main focus was to determine the schedule and specific locations on the potential itinerary of the Head of State during his upcoming visit to the southern region. Kyiv's intelligence community released a report at the same time Russian forces carried out strikes on the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson and border areas in the northeastern Kharkiv region. Ukrainian officials reported that these attacks resulted in the deaths of at least three individuals.

In a separate development, Andriy Yermak, Chief of Staff for President Zelenskyy, stated that Moscow had launched artillery fire on the village of Kucherivka, situated near Ukraine's border with Russia in the Kharkiv region. This incident resulted in the loss of two lives, as confirmed by Yermak.
These strikes represent the most recent instances of Russia's daily aerial bombardment of Ukrainian towns and cities. Over the past few weeks, both nations have escalated their assaults on each other's military personnel, infrastructure, and military equipment, as the deadliest conflict in Europe since World War II approaches its 18-month milestone.

On a different note, the Reuters news agency reported on Sunday, based on information from officials in Kyiv and Moscow, that Ukraine had targeted two bridges connecting Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula - a substantial region that has been under Russian occupation since 2014 - to the Ukrainian mainland.
During the weekend, Russia initiated a barrage of missiles and drones targeting Ukraine, which notably included an attack on a blood transfusion center. President Zelenskyy condemned this action as a "war crime." These strikes were viewed as probable retaliation for a Ukrainian assault on a significant Russian port in the Black Sea. The attack carried out using Ukrainian sea drones on Friday, inflicted considerable damage to a Russian warship.
The frequency of attacks on crucial strategic ports in the Black Sea has escalated after Russia's decision in July to withdraw from an internationally mediated agreement that had previously allowed Ukraine to export grain to global markets.
In the meantime, high-ranking representatives from approximately 40 nations, including Ukraine, the United States, and China, convened in Saudi Arabia on Sunday for discussions aimed at achieving peace. Notably absent from the gathering was Russia. However, the summit concluded without yielding any specific measures or actions.
The Ukrainian delegation characterized the talks as an endeavor to garner extensive international backing for Kyiv's prerequisites for peace. These prerequisites encompass the complete withdrawal of Russian troops and the restoration of all Ukrainian territories under its authority.
In a written communication to Reuters on Monday, China's foreign ministry conveyed that the discussions in Jeddah had contributed to the reinforcement of international agreement.

Conclusion

In the preceding week, President Zelenskyy of Ukraine expressed optimism about the possibility of convening a "peace summit" for Ukraine later this year. He also highlighted that the talks in Saudi Arabia marked progress toward achieving that goal.
